Hamble Airfield Quarrying Application – HCC Minerals & Waste Plan Update

A number of residents in the village have received a letter from Hampshire County Council (HCC) stating that they are starting a partial review of the Minerals and Waste Plan which includes Hamble Airfield.

You might be asking “what does this mean?”

In simple terms, it means that HCC has carried out an internal review of the vision and policies in the Minerals and Waste Plan and is now inviting comments on the revised policy.

Unfortunately, Hamble Airfield remains in the Minerals and Waste Plan as a site for gravel and sand extraction, so in that regard nothing has changed. As a result, Cemex will continue to gather the evidence they have been asked to produce so that HCC can make a decision on the application. Given the timings, it is unlikely to have a direct impact but does provide another chance for us to argue how unsuitable the site is for quarrying and to check whether the information that is produced will help us in trying to have the application refused.

To better understand the issues and the draft Plan, HCC will be holding a public exhibition at the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, 23 November from 4pm-7pm. It is really important that as many people as possible go along to make their views known and voices heard.

Like you, we will want to see what HCC have to say in their exhibition and to read the draft Plan and other documents. This will take time, so we thank you in advance for your patience. We will confirm how we will be using this opportunity to oppose the Hamble Airfield quarrying application both via social media and the newsletter. We will also be discussing it at our Council meetings in the run up to the closing date which is 31 January 2023.
