Job Purpose:
To ensure that public areas in the Council’s ownership are: – in good order, support wildlife and managed for the good of all the community in an open and transparent way.
To carry out small general maintenance tasks on buildings and assets and working with the team to appoint and oversee contractors for larger maintenance jobs (as required). To provide a caretaking service for the Parish Council’s assets, which includes opening and closing facilities, cleaning, health and safety/compliance inspections.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Carry out minor maintenance tasks across assets, including playpark equipment, fixtures, fittings, basic plumbing, and carpentry.
· Complete daily site inspections, identifying faults and carrying out or arranging prompt repairs.
· Liaise with specialist contractors for repairs or maintenance beyond in-house capabilities.
· Oversee Health & Safety compliance, including routine checks (e.g. legionella, lifts, defibrillators), and coordinate annual inspections (e.g. PAT testing, topple testing, alarm systems).
· Prepare Risk Assessments and Method Statements for relevant duties and projects.
· Maintain grounds and gardens, including grass and hedge cutting, flower bed upkeep, and planting of trees, shrubs, and seasonal bulbs.
Required Skills:
· Full UK driving licence to drive Hamble Parish Council vehicles
· Maintenance and DIY skills – such as electrical, plumbing and carpentry
· Have good written and numeracy skills to maintain health and safety and worksheet records to a high standard
· IT skills including emails, texts, online reporting and use of a smart phone
Location: Hamble Parish Office, Estate and Mess Room. This role cannot be completed remotely.
Background: Hamble Parish Council (HPC) is a small but busy Parish Council within the Eastleigh Borough. It manages a range of facilities and services, as well as acting as a point of contact to the community. Business operations take place in person at the parish office, via our website and social media and over the phone. The Council provides car parking, play areas, sports fields and pavilion, allotments, a dinghy park, a cemetery and manages significant areas of open spaces in the village.

Pay: SCP 7-12 £26,403 – £28,598 (£13.69 – £14.81 per hour) (o/t for weekend working at enhanced hourly rate)
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week between Monday and Friday (with some weekend working required)
Training provided depending on experience
